Black Knights

Long-time readers may well remember these fine men, and Lt. Hickey.  For those that don’t go learn more about them, and previous things that showed their character, at this post that was part of Operation Puppy Love.

Please join me in remembering and honoring them today.

Into The Light: Chris Kyle

When I was told by a friend last night that Chris was dead, my mind went blank.  It wasn’t a punch in the gut as much as it was like slamming into a wall, with my mind refusing to process the information.  I jumped to other things, talked about them, said my goodbye, and hung up.  I read, and waited for the news to be confirmed.

I make no claim to having met him, or being friends with him.  However, I can’t imagine anyone who has been involved in the war, much less trying to study and learn about it, who doesn’t know the name.  His book, American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History is considered (with cause) a must read.  The most lethal sniper we’ve ever had; a dedicated warrior; and, a good man determined to good and right by all of good will.

It is bitterly ironic, though not surprising, that he apparently died trying to help a brother who was struggling.  There are already those trying to use this for cheap theatrics and political points, and they deserve nothing but contempt and to be shunned by all men, male or female.  The truth of what has happened will take some time to come out, and I will wait until then to form more thoughts on the person who did this.

We have lost a good man to the war, though he no longer was on the front line.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends, and I morn the loss of a warrior and a good man.
