CPS/DFS Problems Continue

Emperor Misha has a post up this morning guaranteed to get your blood boiling. If anyone out there has not cottoned onto the fact that the Departments of Family Services/Child Protective Services/Etc. are not doing their job and are out of control, you need to look around. Don't take my word for it, go do some research.

The system is broken, and is about as likely to get fixed as the seizure laws are, and for the same reason. People get rich off the abuse. Just as local governments and individuals get rich off bogus seizures, the alleged child protection agencies and their agents get rich off bogus and unnecessary seizures. Go take a good look at the Family Safety Act and be prepared to see your blood pressure rise. Take a good look at your own state and local versions of DFS/CPS/Etc. and try to find any form of check and balance there: There is none. These people can and do act with impunity and there is no alternative to the often special judiciary that works with them. If you get caught in their gears, you are screwed.

And heavens help you if you do fight back. There was a case in Georgia where that happened, and it was admitted to the Atlanta paper that things had been fought and dragged out simply because the family in question had gone to the press. Show up any of these little power-hungry dictator wannabes for what they are, and you and your children will pay.

What is very bad about the case cited by Misha is that these people's kids are now going to be adopted out (guess what, there is a cash bonus to agencies for that too). To top it off, one of their daughters is reportedly going to a family with a convicted child molester who is reported to already "be working on her".

This is just one of many such cases. Start taking a look at the facts, and not the emotions and hysteria that are put out by these agencies and those who support them. Start looking at the money and the power, and the lack of accountability. Anytime there is a loss of individual rights, there are no realistic checks and balances, the situation is both intolerable and unconstitutional. If your public servants don't understand this, then start replacing them. Vote them out, and make it clear why you are voting them out. Get the facts out, and if you can put it in emotional terms as well, such as with a story like this, well, then, it is too bad if the dictator's own tactics can be used against them.

UPDATE: I have been doing some more digging, and while the parents did make some mistakes, they were not sufficient to warrant the actions and stem from a variety of circumstances beyond their control. The fact is, they tried to get help for what happened after the father was run over in a crosswalk by a driver. They tried to do right, and this is what happened. As a result, I have just faxed the following letter to the governor of Michigan:

"Governor Granholm,

I am writing to you on behalf of the Crowton family, and to ask you to correct a gross and grave miscarriage of justice. What is happening to this family, and the danger in which government authorities have willfully and knowingly placed a child, needs to be redressed.

All emotional appeals aside, there appears to be substantial documentation of errors, discrepancies, and violations in the actions of the government. These errors and violations are clear, egregious, and demand swift action to remediate clear violations of law. It is my opinion that this case presents compelling evidence that a thorough investigation of how this case was handled ,and the operations, policies, and procedures of the departments involved, is needed.

As chief executive of the state, command responsibility rests with you. Morally, if not legally, you are responsible for all that occurs under your leadership. I ask that you rise to this challenge and show the wisdom and compassion your position requires. The watching nation, and indeed the world, will applaud you for so doing. "

We will see what happens with this case. Investigate it yourself, and let the governor know how you feel. We are a republic, and doing so is your right, and more importantly, doing so is your responsibility. Be a citizen, and exercise your responsibilities.
