HR4323 Protect Our Troops!

This bill – which requires no new money, provides tighter accountability, and simply gets armor and other needed items to our troops ASAP is held up in committee. It needs and deserves immediate action, but to many in D.C. politics is far more important than the lives and safety of our troops, such as those in the 82nd Airborne and 101st Airborne. They need your help.

Take the time right now to CALL your Senators and express your support of this legislation, and urge them to do all they can to get it out of committee. FAX them as well, so that there is a paper record, and I do suggest faxing because of continuing mail delays and problems because of security. You can get phone numbers here, and by clicking on the names you can get to WWW sites where you can easily get FAX numbers as well.

Take the time to CALL Senator John Warner, who has the power to get it out of committee, to ask him to take the time to read this short piece of legislation and get it out. Surely he could take five minutes out of his busy schedule of hearings about Abu Graib to read this and get it moving. Call the Senator and respectfully request he do so, and you can reach him at 202-224-2023. Take the time to FAX him as well, so that there is a paper record too, at 202-224-6295.

Somehow, in reading the roll call of the House vote, I was not surprised to find that Abercrombie voted against this legislation. You may want to take a good look at how your Representative voted, especially in this election year.

UPDATE: Here is the text of the letter I have FAXed to Senator Warner's Office, as a follow-up to my call of this morning:

Senator John Warner
225 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Sir,

My name is C. Blake Powers and I write you today to request your help on an urgent piece of legislation. That legislation will help protect our troops while providing tighter accountability on acquisitions. HR 4323, surely one of the shortest pieces of legislation in recent memory, needs to come to a full vote as soon as possible. Every day it is delayed places the safety and lives of our troops, troops who are fighting for our safety and freedoms, in jeopardy.

Knowing your public statements in support of our troops, I am sure that I will soon be able to inform my readers that this important bill is headed to an immediate vote. Your assistance in this matter, and your support for its passage, will be much appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration on this matter. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

C. Blake Powers
