Oh Yes, Let’s Talk Nice

Okay, I will be the first to admit that I prefer to talk first and then act and I think it a good thing to do overall. Yet, in the face of New Rules In The Skies, follow-ups, and all the other aftermath of 9-11, those that favor talk above all else miss something (deliberately perhaps) that whatever else may be said about it, the 9-11 Commission did NOT miss:

“It is not a position with which Americans can bargain or negotiate. With it there is no common ground—not even respect for life—on which to begin a dialogue. It can only be destroyed or utterly isolated.”

Thanks to Wizbang! for this and to both Instapundit and my favorite Bellicose Women ( Hi Kathy!) for the pointer.

(Commenting on your older post.) You are right on the new rules in the sky, that 911 could not have been prevented by armed pilots. But it is possible that, given the same knowledge that Flight 93 had, one of the towers might still be standing, and many people saved at the Pentagon. Those rules changed very, very, quickly on 911.

I'm kind of amused by the argument (ongoing) as to whether the passengers and surviving crew members got into the cockpit on Flight 93. It doesn't really matter. They did the right thing and prevented a plane crash into the Capitol or White House.

They made the decision. Not the government. No one told them to fight back. They just did. They understood that quote from the 911 commission, and acted.
