Mosque Raided?

There is conflicting information this morning about the situation in Najaf. There are reports from the Iraqi government claiming that police raided the shrine; yet, commanders on the scene say that no Coalition forces have entered it. This situation just continues to get weirder and weirder. If this story is correct, Sadr has just had his legs cut out from under him yet again. May it be literal this time.

As far as I'm concerned, the "holy shrine" lost its' holiness when the "majority Shi'a" allowed al-Sadr's goons to move in--and stay for months without serious challenge from anyone but coalition forces. I can't imagine anyone who truly revered the place will ever see it in the same way again.

If anyone really thinks the coalition is at all interested in attacking the shrine itself, all they have to do is move Sadr's "army" to another location, and then watch which way the coalition tank guns are pointed.

Until then, the "shrine" is a legitimate target, and should be destroyed if necessary.

I'm really hoping that today's quote from al-Sistani is accurate, and al-Sadr has truly, finally, and completely lost support from the rest of the Shi'a leaders.

This guy will be dangerous until he's dead. I can't believe they keep negotiating with him and I certainly don't want any more Americans to die because we couldn't "pull the trigger" so to speak. Well, I guess we must await events...
