Zell Gave Them Hell

Wow! What a speech. You could tell that Zell is fed up, and was tired of trying to change things from within, and is fired up. That he has done, working inside the Democratic party to try to bring it back to its roots. When that failed, he wrote his book. When that failed, he took this step, and laid out for everyone the reasons why. This was the strongest speech, stern like a father dressing down a wayward child, of the convention to date, and it was more than just a convention speech. It was a declaration of open and total war with the leadership of his party, as well as one heck of a rousing speech for the RNC. The implications of this speech are staggering, and not just in terms of the convention and election. The stand Zell Miller has taken bodes to shape and reshape politics within the the parties and within America as a whole. The fallout will be intense, and I expect it to get very, very nasty. With luck, however, it will have a very positive impact in the long run. We shall see.

UPDATE: Blackfive has a great take on Sgt. Miller's speech. Lileks has some good thoughts here. I do wish I could have seen Zell back that poseur Matthews into a corner, and am glad to know an older and wiser head has some similar thoughts on dueling.

UPDATE: Michelle is is gloating a bit about what happened to Slimeball's host. She also has a link to a transcript of the speech. You can see the smackdown here courtesy of a link from Wizbang. Courtesy of the merciful Allah, comes this link to video of the speech, which is well worth watching.
