Around The Sphere

Things are interesting here at the temporary lair, and I am devoting a good deal of time to said interesting (good) situation. Meantime, here are some links to some things going under the mainstream radar, along with a few observations:

Rand looks at a new term for space tourist, since at least two congresscritters seem to feel that knee-high-gartered-argyle-sock-and-shorts-and-floral shirt types are just lined up waiting to go into space. Rand and others are being far too kind to the congresscritters in question, in ascribing thought to what is being done. Given the way such things work, what I suspect is that they have introduced legislation to gain fame and stake out a position that gives the impression that they are serious because they are handling a serious matter (note: almost any science topic carries this connotation on The Hill), even though they don’t have the first freaking clue about what they are doing. Things like this are done far too often to impress gullible voters and jockey for position within the halls of power. No thought, just a particularly base form of animal cunning, though I might be insulting most wild animals with the comparison. FWIIW, I like Rand’s term of “space adventurer” as a means of short-circuiting the willfully ignorant.

Prayers and more tangible assistance are needed for a soldier wounded in Iraq. Do what you can to help his family be at his side.

Hook is home. Top, glad you are home safe, though from this post I would ask people to send some prayers your way as well. Godspeed to you, your men, and your family. You are all in my thoughts.

Der Commissar is hot and heavy with it. Not only is there a new show trial underway, but he has the beauties of Ukranian politics up here and here. Oh, and Commissar? Yes, I am going to tell Barbara. UPDATE: There is yet a newer show trial underway, and we will see if the bleepin tracktorbacks work this time. For any of the posts today.

Parkway Rest Stop has some advice for out of state drivers. Get to feeling better soon Jim!

I agree with Kathy that someone needs to be courtmartialed or fired. The improper release of confidential and classified materials for partisan gain is just short of treason in the best of times, and easily crosses the border in times of war. Reminder to all, we are at war. Also, check out this post too.

Logic & Sanity has the despicable story of stolen Swedish children for sale. Yes, I said stolen and not kidnapped, since the Swedish government is being so understanding about the Palestinian cause that they are willing to sanction criminal acts and forfeit the rights and lives of its own citizens in said “noble” pursuit. Scare quotes are mine and deliberate. There is more at the site on the growing Muslim problem in Sweden.

Michele has not posted in some time. Write and let me know if all is okay.

In addition to all the outstanding military posts up, Jen also has up a dignified and restrained message to spammers. Think she might join me in going medieval on them?

There are a number of good medical posts up at Galen’s Log by Bard Parker. Start here and work your way down.

Da Goddess tries to walk a mile in protest shoes. Braver lady than I. Drink warning.

Really want to support the troops? Then Blackfive tells you how to do more than just slap a sticker on your car to feel good. He also has the lowdown on those Chamberlains who want to negotiate with OBL.

Baldilocks puts the takedown on Canadian news and on Bill Maher.

Val has an outstanding guest entry up on Che. It is well worth the read. Also, Val’s efforts have helped put a light on those despicable things who have been making and peddling Che wear for kids. My response to Burlington Coat Factory and the others involved in this shameful episode is this: what’s next? A Ted Bundy line? The serial rapist of your choice line of break-away clothing? Jeff Dahmer (sp?) cooking and BBQ attire? Hell, why not go whole hog and sell Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot lines? Get some integrity, grow a spine, pull the merchandise from every store, and quit whining. You frelled up, so stand up, admit it, and make amends. If you can’t do that, then frell you and your business for it will be a cold day before you ever get a cent of mine again. In some great news, he also has the low-down on the release of a brave man and true freedom fighter from the notorious Castro prison system.

Hmmmmm. Wonder if Ith might be willing to join in the medieval torture fun and games with spammers?

Neptunus Lex is leaving again. He only blogs when ashore, but it is well worth the wait to read his posts. Go here and just start reading.

That’s it for now.
