What Have You Done ?

Da Goddess made a very good point in this post and in this follow up for all the people who missed the point.

What have you done to help people elsewhere? The ones you, both left and right, use as points and pawns.

Have you ever donated time, money, or other things to Spirit of America so as to bring school supplies, clothing, library books, sporting goods, and more to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan?

Have you ever donated time, money, or other things to Operation Give to help children in need? Not just in Iraq and Afghanistan, but to the victims of the tsunami throughout Asia?

Have you ever donated shoes or other needed supplies to Operation Shoe Fly so as to bring shoes, boots, blankets and other supplies to the people of Afghanistan?

Have you ever donated to Strengthen The Good to help people around the world?

Did you help the people of Beslan?

Did you go to any of those places to rebuild, provide medical assistance, or other tangible and useful help to them?

Did you do anything other than mouth off?

Deeds, not words, are the measure of any Man be they male or female. Deeds, not screams and screeds, will change the world for the better.

If you have helped, good. If not, shut up and act to do some real good in the world. Otherwise, all you do is contribute to the bad and evil, and as such you part and parcel of the problem and are not a part of the solution.

you said it more succinctly than I did...and much more beautifully.

the sad thing is, most people only want to vent. they won't get involved in anything that requires more than a kneejerk reaction from them.

it saddens me that we, as a society, hide behind our moral outrage, yet refuse to do anything to actually help anyone.

I went into detail at Joanie's but the one thing I particularly want to be recognized for is that I've supported my wee wifey's work with Girls Scouts since we were dating thirty-some years ago, and making my own effort for the youth of our communities for at least twenty years. I can think of several productive and upstanding adults who were in one way or another troubled kids when we got to know them.
