Imagine the reaction if Chris Leppard was gay instead of fat, and officials locked him up because he was compulsively having anonymous sex with multiple partners. They could cite public health concerns--such behavior could facilitate the spread of AIDS--as well as a concern for Chris' health.

Gay rights activists would descend on that country like locusts. The government officials behind this would cave in like a sand tunnel.

Because Leppard is fat instead of gay--not a member of a "protected" group--it's unlikely you'll see much outrage from self-styled "civil libertarians".
