Turning Off Trackback Pings

Have had to do it because of the 600 plus spam pings that have gotten through in the last couple of days. Dealing with them takes the time I had for blogging, and more, so... Hope to do something soon to get things back on track, other than hunting down spammers and showing AI what true torture and such are...

Are you running Moveable Type? Have you changed the names of your trackback (and comments) scripts?

If not, then expect a lot more of this.

Also you may want to consider upgrading to MT 3.17 and installing the SpamLookUp plugin. It sends about 98% of my comment spam into "moderated" status (doesn't show up on the blog) and I can delete it all with one click. It works better than MT-Blacklist. You can import your MT-Blacklist wordlist into SpamLookUp by cut and pasting. I haven't had a trackback spam since I installed it.

Just make sure you delete the directories with the MT-Blacklist stuff in them or the blog will do weird things (made that mistake myself).
