If You Use Frelling Poison

To kill pests, then for Ifni's sake use it responsibly. I had thought that Ginger had been poisoned based on symptomology. I got a message this morning from my neighbor that they had found Ginger's remaining kitten dead, also apparently from poison. I've also found out that we have a neighbor who is known to use poison on pests.

There are times when poison needs to be used. Even then, there is no excuse for not using it properly. Animals that get hit by direct or secondary poison die very painful and nasty deaths. By the time symptoms manifest, it is usually way too late to do any good.

A cat who loved me and her kitten suffered because someone did NOT do things properly, IMO.

Think before you spread poison around, because other lives will be affected if you don't do it right.

What would you recomend for pests? I typically use traps, but I have a 2 year old into everything and neither poison nor traps seem to be a good idea right now.

I agree. People these days never think about the actions they do till it's to late. Like I told my mom yesterday, "People can't really understand a situation UNTIL it happens to someone they know or to themselves." Instead of using poisons couldn't your neighbor have used something else that doesn't harm mammals and such?

I use traps. I cannot use poison. I have children... and the thought of a neighbor's pet getting into it, is more than I can handle as well.

LW is far more the expert than, for what its worth tho I but I tend to use either the non-toxic glue based traps or a catch & release trap (you can get them in all sizes at Tractor Supply for example)

Poison I consider a no no in more or less any form. Its dangerous not just to other animals, but kids, and if your using it outside the danger increases in triplicate from exposure, run off rainwater and unkowns (neighbors, free roam animals etc)

If you can't afford traps, my vote is almost always non-toxic glue base. You can make them as well if you need too.

LW-> I hate to hear about the cat and brood man. Some folks just ain't right. My condolences
