Ah, yes, those evil right wing brownshirts. Ooops, my bad yet again. For some facts on the protests, and how peace loving some of the people really are, start here. go here, here, here, here, here, and (heck with it, just go) here. Lot more out there, but this is all I have time to do right now.

Start Hurricane Preparations Now

Okay, since the Old Media is largely ignoring it, I want to start pointing out some good posts on the fact that Frances is headed to Florida. What is Frances, you ask? Why, yet another strong and growing hurricane.

Sekimori has some good information here. Boudicca's Voice has some more information and thoughts here. Val notes it and its similarities to Andrew.

If you live in Florida, you really, really, really need to keep an eye on it. And what is coming behind it, as this looks to be a really bad year for storms.

Desperate Convention Coverage

Had to go run some errands, so caught lunch out and of course there was a television going in the dining area. Bleh. It was tuned to the Communist News Network, not a big surprise in hometown Atlanta, and I was struck by desperation in Wolf Blitzer's voice. Every other line was on how close the race was; most of the talking was being done by people from Kerry's campaign and the poor token Republican seemed to get minimal time and always cut by the commercial break; and, news and fact were being carefully ignored. To hear them tell it, Kerry was in the lead, Kerry was commanding, Kerry was so very... You would never know that the polls were opening and that Kerry was slipping, or that any portion of his record in war or in the Senate was in question, or that... If it were not for the desperation, it would have been good spin. But the desperation was there, and the panic was obvious. Media credibility continues to decline, and they honestly wonder why.

“It’s Like Fuggin 9-11 Never Happened”

The good folks at Cox and Forkum have up their take on this, as pointed out by in continuing coverage by Allah. It is interesting to note the difference between the two conventions: Protestors caged and barred from most activities, and protestors given full rights of citizenship. Some have moved well beyond the rights into active breaking of the law, but does that really surprise anyone?

The fact is, for the majority of these people 9-11 did not happen. It does not exist in their world, and if you read what they write and listen to what they speak, even if it did happen it does not matter. For, you see, it was our fault. We deserved it and reaped what we had earned by not having abandoned our way of life and taken up internationalism. The people in the towers? Well, they were all greedy capitalists working to make millions off the sweat of others, or were otherwise willing lackeys who by choosing to be exploited had forfeited the rights normally granted to such people.

If you strip the rhetoric down to logic, and parse out what is being said, it seems to break down into two groups: America is evil and is the true problem in the world; and, those who hate Bush so much that nothing he does can be right and therefore must be opposed in the strongest ways possible. When the law is not on your side, break it for might makes right and the end justifies the means.

Ah yes, the true brownshirts are revealed.

A Weird One: Drunken Decapitation

The news here in Atlanta is filled with a drunken decapitation this morning. Seems that two friends were out drinking Saturday night, and one of them got to feeling bad, so they left. On the way home, the sick one is apparently leaning out the window when the driver clips a telephone pole guidewire, and the guidewire takes off his buddy’s head. Despite the blood and such, the guy goes home, parks, and goes to sleep. A passerby the next morning saw the body in/out of the truck, realized it was not a tasteless joke, and called police. According to reports, the still extremely inebriated driver was awakened still in bloody clothes. Apparently, he either did not realize that something had happened or refused to believe that it was as bad as it is. Needless to say, the town is a twitter.

Some More On Jack Hunter Daves

I find myself not knowing quite where to begin, or how much to say, about the man. How do I describe the rapier wit, the dry sense of humor (and pun), and a gifted storyteller? Of a man that was never published as much as he could have been, because he thought more of his stories and his art than of simply being published? Of a man who would call one of his good friends at odd hours of the night, so that he might sing the news to him? There is a brief listing of some of his stories here, There is an even better good bye here that will tell you more about him. Good bye Jack, and thanks for being even a small part of my life.

Overheard At Barnes & Noble

Yesterday, I had to go look for some books for business, and thought to take the time to try and find a few others I want to read. As I was browsing around the customer service center at the nearby Barnes and Noble, I was treated to a very interesting conversation by two of the staff. These two were apparently tired of questions and accusations about Unfit for Command and related books. This turned into a screed of sorts about books, booksellers, plots by “millionaire Republican publishers” and a general teardown of customers. It is one thing to make fun of customers in private, but to do so loudly in front of other customers is more than a bit rude – and stupid. Later, I approached one of them to ask for a trashcan in which to dispose of my finished coffee, and thought I was going to have to produce my papers. Attitude to spare. Since I don’t have cash to spare, and hate to think what was said about a customer who dared ask for the ability to throw something away, I think I will do most of my book shopping elsewhere. Think there is another B&N closer to my cousin’s, maybe there. Maybe the competition. Anywhere without the attitude.

A Childhood Memory

Events of the last week or so have conspired to send me shopping. Now, unlike some males, I have no particular bias against shopping. Those who know me only in casual wear will be surprised, but close friends will not, to find that I can be a bit of a clothes horse. I love well-made clothes, and my best suit is custom made of imported wool. I am a bit of a traditionalist, but love well-crafted and considered flare as well.

My search for some new clothes took me back to a wonderful place, that of childhood. One of the places I went to shop was a favorite childhood destination, Lenox Square. Given that my parents had little money, my Mom made many of my clothes. There were some things, however, that she would not make and we went shopping for them. I rather suspect that much of the shopping was really for her, but every couple of years we would make the pilgrimage to Lenox Square to shop.

We made the round then, both of Lenox and of Phipps. Phipps was the high-end, the hoi polloi of shopping. Lots of window shopping was done there, but little else as even the refreshments were well above our means. “Champaign taste and beer pocket book” was how Mom described it. Yet, we did it and enjoyed it. Mom had a great means of keeping me in line: if I was good and put up with all her shopping (which I suspect was the real driver), we would go eat at The Magic Pan. This was a crepe restaurant in Lenox, and for me it was the san greal. That, or some other lofty eatery was the goal, the reason to put up with the shopping. It was white linen and fine manners, the chance to use all the utensils in proper order, and I reveled in it. I also picked up a liking of truly fine clothing, and keep it to this day.

I walked the new Lenox Square, and enjoyed the experience. I found one pair of good trousers to buy, and may go back for more. I found the shoes I desired, and more than that, I found a part of myself long lost. The little boy, the seeker of the highest, who searched for the best as it it were a man with a lantern. A fond memory of youth, and truth that is transmuted into something more.

So, what memory drives you? What shaped your search for the best in something? What brings back a very fond memory from youth, a time you shared with others? Think on that this day, and remember the wonder and the joy in all parts of life.

Ice Cream Shortage Continues

Panic does not grip the nation as the Free Ice Cream shortage continues. The last few days have been filled with some good things, and a schedule that has been so hectic that I have not even had the time to make a pot of coffee or tea the last two days, or today for that matter. I almost feel guilty taking time to cook and eat breakfast... The only bright spot is that I have had time for they gym, and am finally starting to get back into the groove. Have not been there since a problem a couple of months ago, so am glad to be back. Hope to be back to burning 3000 calories a session within a month.

Right now, the largest story out there is the Old Media dropping any pretense at being objective. The complete abrogation of the principles of journalism is a far bigger story than current politicians, and I am working on something in relation to this story and the reaction to it, which starts right here. Right now, the words "willful endangerment" ring in my mind in regards NPR and I sincerely hope that this was not the cause of all of My Wars archives being pulled. I am also less than happy that Sgt. Hook is down.

On other fronts, I HIGHLY recommend you go here and watch "The Only Thing" as it is well worth doing. Also, go check out the latest from Ironbear which includes yet more on the true SA goons and fascists around. It is indeed interesting to see how the loons view anyone who disagrees with them, and how they feel that such people should be dealt with. They are welcome to try that, but had better bring lots of friends as I suspect that it will take at least one hundred of them to take on any one of "the opposition." Just a hunch.

More soon, I hope.

Direct Action

In the wonderful letter by the SA goon who hacked Protest Warrior’s mail list, there was a delightful sentence “This is an autonomous call out for electronic direct action against the RNC.” The key here is the phrase “direct action”

That phrase has a very specific meaning and it is not an online meaning. While I have no idea if the coward behind this attack is old enough to remember and understand, I am.

I have memories of the Red Brigades, Bader Meinhof, and other such fun progressive groups. You see, I remember having to sit real still while the MPs ran mirrors up under the car to see if there was a bomb there before we could enter the base. I remember having to leave an restaurant in or near Vicenza, Italy, because if we did not members of the Red Brigades phoned to say that they would toss a bomb in just for kicks. I remember having to be careful up in Bavaria because of Bader Meinhof members. These and related groups, such as Action Directe used this phrase with a very specific meaning: to kill, to murder someone or as many as they could of “the enemy.” Men, women, children, it really didn’t matter to them, though to be fair they did ask the base to move the kindergarten away from the edge of the base where it might get hit if a bomb just happened to sail over at that point… Completely by accident, of course.

No, direct action does not mean online. It does not mean civil disobedience. It does not mean harmless pranks. It means murder, maiming, and torture. It means blood. It means dealing with the enemy on a permanent and messy basis.

I had really hoped that those particular bad old days and bad old radicals were behind us. Most nostalgia for those groups and days comes from the callow and ignorant, or from nursing homes where the last members reside (or prison, to be fair). I had really hoped I would not see those days, those groups, and that call here ever again. Yet, here it is, from someone claiming to represent the people and freedom, while trying to destroy both. I wonder if the creature fully understands what it has said, and how seriously the actions and the threat will be taken.

LW

UPDATE: Da Goddess points out another not so innocent phrase that was used in the same way back in the bad old days. I certainly hope that the FBI and others are giving this a very serious look.

Did Karl Rove Handpick These People?

Just caught a brief bit on the news with a senior Kerry communications person. She accused Dole of factual inaccuracies, and made it a blanket statement so that any refuation is impossible. She then went on to extend it out to the SBVfT ads, and then said that the Kerry campaign had no need to waste their time refuting specific charges made because they were all refuted by official Navy documents. All blanket, all the time. It is also killing them, which is why I really think Karl Rove hand picked these people. Amazing.

Yep, Those Right Wing Brown Shirts Are Busy

Ooops, my bad. It is still the righteous left busy at work, issuing threats and doing their best to end free speech and other such inconvenient things. This post at LGF shows the commitment of the left to the principles of liberty and eqaulity.

The only people I see running around doing the work, and following the lessons of, Rohm, Himmler, Dzerzhinsky, and others seem to be on the left. The only threats to property, speech, and lives, seem to be coming from the left. Does anyone else appreciate the irony in this?

Such commitment to freedom, to liberty, and to the Constitution and the Republic. Ah yes, I should trust them with my life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness for they will respect it and work towards my best interest. They subscribe to and follow the ideals behind those things and that of the Founding Fathers. Right.

By their actions and their threats they show themselves for what they truly are.

Decisions, Decisions

Okay, do I go ahead and cook the white eggplant in bacon grease, or do it in the somewhat healthier olive oil and butter? Hmmmm. Wonder how bacon and garlic will get along...

LW

UPDATE: Despite the recalcitrant alleged cooktop, I can report that garlic goes very well with bacon grease. I rough chopped a couple of cloves of garlic and added it to the cool grease, then cut the heat to low. Added in a small amount of smoked sweet paprika to the oil, along with some fresh ground pepper. Peeled and sliced the eggplant, then kicked the heat up a bit. Problem: this place was not designed for more than microwave popcorn, so had problems with heat and such that caused the first batch to soak up too much oil. Figured a way around that then did the second batch with the other option in mind. Pulled it off still a bit undercooked, and by the time I finished up other things it was nigh unto perfect: the surface was quite tasty and the spices and bacon grease had fused to pull out the sweet natural flavor of the eggplant. I think I just had lunch, as the second batch is gone. Am going to try to rescue the first batch in a few, but as for the second batch-- wow. Think if I have the chance, would love to grill white eggplant as I think it would do wonderfully.

UPDATE II: Forgot to mention that there is so much salt in bacon grease you do NOT need to add more.

Food For Thought, Olympic Style

I’m watching, finally, one of those “blood” sports that doesn’t rate serious coverage. In this case, it is some of the judo competition. Now, judo was the first martial art I formally studied though I had received some other training before that which was not part of a formal martial art. I remember well my first true judo match because I still have permanent reminders of it. My very first opponent was a very good brown belt, whom I managed to take down and pin very quickly. The problem was, my surprise at doing such was so great I froze and let him go. Bad mistake. Never embarrass a brown or black belt in front of a crowd, they get cranky. So much so that they clocked me at about 60 when I hit the mat because he was not messing around. I was so surprised and never saw it coming, so much so I did not do everything proper and have a chipped tooth to this day to remind me of it. Lesson of the day: don’t be surprised at how well you do, just keep on and don’t ever let go or give up. Surprise and pleasure can wait until the job is done.

Carnival Of The Recipes

Well, here is my entry in the Carnival of the Recipes.

One Egg Omelet

Hardware:
6-8" non stick skillet (i.e. small)
appropriate spatula
small bowl
fork
plate

Ingredients:
1 egg
shredded cheese
smoked paprika or chipotle
butter

Directions:

Break egg into bowl and whip with fork. Add small amount of smoked paprika or chipotle (or smoked spice of your choice) to taste. Whip some more. Set aside.

Place small amount of butter in bottom of skillet, place skillet on stove, cut on medium low heat. Pour in egg mixture. Place shredded cheese in layer on top of egg mixture. Step away and do not touch it until it puffs up and the cheese is melted and toasting. Bottom should be browned on edges and such. This will take several minutes, do not touch it during this time. When it is done, fold over in half, place on a plate, and enjoy. It will drop a bit, but will still be puffed up like an omelet, and is delicious.

Another Olympic Reflection

The games were a topic of conversation this morning at the gym, and I was glad I was not the only one running late from having stayed up to see the events. One of the gentlemen behind the counter and I were talking, and he summed up nicely what we had both enjoyed so much: the sportsmanship. As he pointed out, it is rare these days and almost extinct these days among professional athletes. It was so good to see it last night. Swimmers from different nations and teams congratulating each other, and almost all the younger gymnasts hugging and congratulating each other at the end. They showed respect to each other, to the teams, to the countries, and to the games. What a pity it is so rare that it elicits this type of commentary and discussion. What a pity national respect, like the young man the other night who took off his crown and held it over his heart as his flag went up or the almost unconscious singing of the national anthem last night by Ms. Patterson, is noted as the exception and not the norm. What a pleasure it was to see it so widespread among so many of the younger athletes. There is indeed cause for hope in these younger athletes, for the games, and most of all for the concepts of respect and sportsmanship. That is well worth celebrating at these games.

The Proudest Olympic Moment

No, it is not the gold in gymnastics, but the winner. The winner who showed grace and more in winning. The woman I just watched place her hand over her heart as the flag was raised, and who silently and with pride sang our national anthem as it was played. No theatrics, no diva BS. Give 'Em Hell Zell!

Well, a man for whom I have a fair bit of respect will be the keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention. Democrat Zell Miller of Georgia will speak, and I am willing to place a cash bet right now it will be well worth hearing. If you have not read his A National Party No More you really should, especially if you are Democrat and care for the party.

Kerry: It's All Lies And It's All Bush's Fault!

The news just had a clip of Kerry's response to the SWIFTboats ad: It is all lies, and since a Republican gave money to them, it is all Bush's fault. As always, not a single specific as to what is a lie, etc. Just broad brush, deny, and chant the mantra of the opposition "It is all Bush's fault." Just once, I wish he would supply some specifics on anything. So far:

Economy: No specifics
Terror: No specifics
Miltary: No specifics
You name it: No specifics

Hard for an opponent to debate you, contrast positions, etc., when you don't hold a firm position on ANY subject and never, ever, give a single specific on any topic.

Well, in the absence of any viable third-party candidate, I am going to join blogs for Bush even though I disagree with him on things ranging from stem cells to the Patriot Act. Where he gets my vote is on the military and on his prosecution of the War on Terrorism. For me, since I want a future for any potential children, it becomes a single issue campaign for me. Life or death. It is just that simple. It might not have been, had Kerry not lied, taken a stand on any issue, and provided any specifics on any issue or situation.

LW

UPDATE: Bet this complaint filed with DoD is also a partisan attack by Bush. I do wonder how he will react to this, or if he will. I also wonder, as does Val, when he will release all of his military records.

Fighting Underway In Najaf

Fox is reporting on air that fighting has broken out in Najaf, just a short time after Sadr shot down the cease fire. Stay tuned, maybe what needs to be done will be done this time...

LW

UPDATE: Not clear how much fighting is going on right now, but preparations are being made. According to the Iraqi's, one of the reasons they have not already moved in is that Thug Sadr is holding "human shields" which means hostages. No surprise there...

More Olympic Thoughts

I have not watched a lot, but have caught some. As one of the terminally uncoordinated, gymnastics fascinates me, and has such wonderful beauty and grace to it. Some of the swimming has been good, and I do wish I had caught more of the diving. I am unreconstructed male enough to admit that in watching the female athletes I do have the occasional fantasy, and honest enough to admit that if any of them ever came true it would probably mean my being crippled or having a fatal myocardial infarction. I am unrepentant enough to admit that I can think of a lot worse ways to go.

Most of all that I have seen, what I have enjoyed the most is the fun some have had with the events. The sheer joy, the happiness at competition, and the almost disbelief at doing so well. That is what it is supposed to be about. Instead of listening to the drivel the other night, I caught part of a movie that brought back a delightful Olympic memory. It was the winter games, and it was the last one my mother saw. We shared that time, for I have fond memories of Lillehammer from long before the Olympics, and both of us were quite taken with a fairy tale that came true. That tale was one of Oksana, who showed a grace, beauty, and class upon the ice that stripped away the tawdry soap opera outside. The movie was a recounting of her fairy tale, replete with all the bad things that lead up to the story-book ending. Given all that has happened to her in her life, I hope the tale continues to unfold in grand story-book fashion of the complete and wonderful happy ending. I hope she is remembered for all time for her artistry; but, I will also remember the joy she brought to my mother as she was dying, and for providing a moment of true beauty and class for all to enjoy.

Troop Surge To Iraq/Najaf?

The mutts really don't get it, do they? Some of the wonderful murderous scum in Iraq are threatening to kill an Western journalist if we don't immediately leave Iraq. Given how most rank-and-file troops feel about journalists and the coverage being given, this just begs instead for more troops to show up. I will hope and pray for his release and safe return, but if they think this will work they are sadly mistaken, even more so than in their choice of hostage.

I Have Got To Get Out Of Here

It was an okay evening, relaxed, and headed towards nice slumber. Then, once again, the fire alarm. This time, there is smoke in the corridor. Bleep. Start the billet, set the failsafes, then the alarm stops. Checking with management, the problem appears to be in one room and related -- allegedly -- to cooking. This looks to be an interesting evening...

A Different Perspective On Government

Yesterday’s post brought to mind a very different perspective on government. Most everyone sees government as something that simply is no matter what other thoughts exist. Think about this today: your government is like any other business that exists to serve you, all the more so here in the United States where we are the Government. Are you getting your money’s worth?

Government provided services have no difference from privately provided services. Or, at least they should not. Do you get good service from your government? Are the service people friendly, customer oriented, and providing good service? Do they provide a good product, at a good price, with high reliability?

If not, why are you continuing to patronize them? After all, you are the Government, it is your money, and you can make a change. Why are you not demanding of your government what you would demand from the least fast food restaurant? Why are you not holding your Government to the highest standards of product and service?

Olympics

While I am not quite to the point Steve is, I have not tuned in a lot. For one thing, I have to contend with the NBC announcers and such, which usually means the mute button gets used. Also, to me it just not the same. When it was all amateurs, no drugs, it was fun. It was great. Watching the joy on faces, the jokes, the support to each other, that was the point of it. I remember well when it changed, starting with the French and Jean-Claude Killy (sp?).

I enjoyed some of the women's gymnastics, though I suspect genetic manipulation by the Romanians. I think they have loaded springs and shock absorbers into those girls, but what a joy to watch. From what Deb and Jay have written, I am sorry I missed the Chinese, because only they and the Romanians really appeared to enjoy what they were doing and having as good a time as you can in such a situation.

My one wish is that more of the non-PC blood sports, such as fencing and shooting, were getting more play on NBC. I figure, however, given the political bias and such already shown that such will happen about the time ice figure skating becomes the sport of choice in Hades.

More Regular Posting?

Sorry for the lack of free ice cream here, and for a number of delays in responding to e-mail, but life has interrupted. Friday, I did some 7 cities in three states on a marathon drive, and may have caught a bit of a bug in the process. That has dragged me down a bit, as has the chair here at the temporary lair, which appears to be responsible for some fun and games with the back. Also, to be honest, what time I have had needed to be spent on work and finding work, and that is where most of it has gone. Throw Charley in and... Will try to get back to regular posting, but no promises for now.

About Time

As always, the devil will be in the details but it past time to change our positioning around the world. We no longer have the threat of the Soviet Union dictating our positions in Europe, and there is no reason that we should continue to shoulder the burden. There are new challenges that face us, a new world situation, and only idiots or politicians with strong vested interests, would say otherwise. I think this a great idea, and eagerly await the details so that they can be analyzed and decided upon in a rational and reasonable manner. Given politics, that is a stretch, but it is a goal worth shooting for.

A Fundamental Difference Of Perspective

Recently, I’ve caught myself taking strong exception to the writings of the Armed Liberal over on Winds of Change. Now, taking strong exception to the positions of others is not unusual, but something told me that this was different, and to be honest it bothered me a bit in that I do find myself in agreement with him on occasion. Indeed, the apparent degree of difference in our opinions is not that much at first glance, especially in a two-dimensional model. Two-dimensional models will get you every time, but it took this post for me to recognize the issue.

The Armed Liberal believes in governments, in the duly appointed people doing their job. In short, he believes that ze experten should run things and be allowed to do their jobs. The authorities are supreme, as representatives of “the state”.

I believe in individuals, and in the idea enshrined in the Constitution that each of us is the government, with all the rights and the massive responsibilities that entails.

In the case of this article, the Armed Liberal is pleased, amazed even from his words, that mere individuals did the right thing. They reacted properly because they called in ze experten and let state security handle everything like good little subjects. They were gut peasants who did right by the state, and his words show his surprise and his pleasure that such creatures would react appropriately.

As for me, I am not surprised when individuals do right. In fact, I expect it for they are the state, they are the government, and most often do the right thing. It is only when they don’t that I am disappointed or surprised.

That difference in perspective is what sets us apart. It is also the fundamental divide in politics today: those who believe in the overarching state, impersonal, and populated by those who are designated as experts; and, those of us who believe that the people are the government, for good or ill. There will be more thoughts on this, for it is a vast gulf when viewed from a different perspective.

Stansfield Turner And Intelligence Reform

All I can and will say is that when it comes to intelligence and intelligence reform, I would listen carefully to what Stansfield Turner has to say, then do exactly the opposite. Read up, study his tenure (and his father's role in WWII and intelligence is a good read too, see At Dawn We Slept), and you should pick up fairly quickly why I say this.

A Day To Reflect, A Day To Act

Charley has hit and things are bad. Yet, as bad as they are, they could be so much worse. Yes, there is lots and lots of damage. Buildings can be rebuilt and possessions replaced, for they are only things. The only true loss we have experienced are people. Right now, the number of dead is not known but it could be high if the early reports from a mobile home park turn out to be accurate.

America is a nation of almost infinite resources and a truly infinite heart. It is now time to help our own. Do not go make donations of things just yet, for at the start of any disaster they are more problem than help. Call and find out what is needed, most places are going to ask for money so that they can get exactly what is needed. Check with LifeSouth, Red Cross, or other local blood agencies to find out if they need blood, and then donate if they do. If you have one of the rarer types, please do so on a regular basis anyway.

Most importantly, check back. Check Florida blogs like Road Warrior, Boudicca’s Voice, Sekimori, On The Third Hand, Twisted Spinster, Hog On Ice, and Babalu Blog to see what is needed. UPDATE: Not sure if he is local, but DeCloah Blog has family and friends down there, as well as some good posts on what has happened and is happening. DebWire is also providing coverage. Money will always help, but the situation will change over time. There will be a need for things, specific things, later. Let’s get those things as they are needed, to where they are needed and when they are needed.

Let us reflect this day. Let us give thanks, that things were not worse. Let us pray, meditate, or whatever it is that you do, for those lost, those in need, and in thanks for all that was spared, and all that are safe. We will mourn our dead, and remember them. Then, let us go forward and do what is needed to bring the full resources of the people of this country to bear, so that all the things can be repaired, rebuilt, or replaced.

Do your part in this. Think, remember, and act. Yes, it is bad. It could have been so much worse. It can and will be better again with the help of each and everyone of us.

LW

UPDATE: Tammi is already posting about what is needed. Listen to her, listen to Lee Ann and other locals, and follow their lead.

UPDATE: Kathy at On The Third Hand is okay! Her truck is not, so some of the generosity of America should be directed at her tip jar... Thanks for the update MB.

UPDATE: Thanks to the tireless Michele of A Small Victory for the links and for the outstanding coverage being done over at The Command Post. Go check it out, and that reminds me that I have been meaning to add that to the blogroll for a while now.

Drop the journalistic crack already, and shut the frell up. If I don't hear another word about the Peterson/Kobe/Hacking trials and proceedings until you announce verdicts, I will be a very happy wolf. The incessent coverage of non-stories, non-events, non-happenings is inane, pointless, numbing to real issues, and demeaning of the dignity of everyone involved. I don't care who was wearing what, the deeper meaning of a given dangling participle, or the hidden implications of someone eating a hotdog for lunch. Please, please, please alleged journalists, get a grip or get help. Otherwise, we, the viewers/listeners may have to stage an intervention, or a mass exodus to some real journalism.

Anti-Semitism: Words Fail Me

I found this story on several sites this morning, and words fail me. Given all the other reports of anti-Semitism in France both official and unofficial, it doesn't surprise me that the thugs in this case were French. But, when something likes this happens in Auschwitz... My advice to those in France: Don't wait for a Crystalnacht and protection that the government is not going to give you. Recent history as well as past history show you won't get it. Get out now. Get your families out, get your investments out, and save yourselves from what is to come.

Yesterday’s thanks reminded me that I had failed to link to a post with which I have a lot of agreement. I meant to do this sooner, before the Commissar was sent to the Gulag for re-education, but the move and other joys got in the way.
