May 18, 2006Dreams Of MotorcyclesThis delightful post by Oddybobo brought a smile to my face, and a delightful memory to mind. Several years back, I got to visit with my Godsons while on business in San Francisco. I had taken them and their parents out to dinner in the Fisherman's Wharf area, and we had decided to take them for their first icecream at the G place. On our way down, their Mom and I caught a look of pure, unbridled lust on the face of the youngest and looked at each other in horror. He was waaaay to young for this (though he had a strong interest in well-endowed females in his younger days, won't swear to now), and then he broke away from us. He ran the few feet away and wrapped his arms around -- the front forks of a brand new Indian motorcycle. The biker and his girlfriend nearly fell off the bike laughing at him, and at us and the looks on our faces. The big, burly biker looked down at Calculation, and asked with a grin "Want to come up?" The head nodded and eyes shown, and Calculation held up his arms for the lift. Once up, we could all see the excitement in is face and eyes, and the trembling in his body. The biker grinned even wider and said "Go For It!" Calculation's arms shot out towards the bars, and if they could have made it I swear I think that they would have pulled a wheelie all the way down the wharf area. The boy was in nirvana. That Christmas, Santa (with a little help) brought matching battery powered HDs for Chance and Calculation; and helmets and more were procured. The trike wheels were well hidden in the "saddlebags" of the bikes, and my little boys began riding around the block each night. I wonder how long it will be before Calculation wants a real motorcycle, so he too can say "I'm sooo outta here." LW September 06, 2004Happy Birthday Calculation!Sept. 1 was the birthday of Godson Calculation! Glad it was a good one, and may the new year be filled with all manner of good things for you and yours. LW December 15, 2003A Letter To My GodsonsThe capture yesterday of Saddam Hussein is a cause for celebration, but I have wondered a bit if it was not confusing as well. Not being with you as much as I would like, I am not sure what you truly know about him and what is going on. Also, I remember how I was at your age, and the fact that many of the people and events in far away lands had very little direct impact on my life, and on my consciousness. Therefore, I wonder how much impact the War on Terror and the battles in Iraq have truly had upon you. While it is a very big deal for adults, it is blessedly less so for you. There is a part of me that hopes that you never do fully understand what this man was and what he did. Could I keep you and your friends from ever having to truly know the evil that he is and represents, I would be tempted to do so, though doing so would be wrong. Protecting you that way, that fully, is not fair to you or to the world. Yet, I would spare you for now many of the details, for you can and will find them out as you get older. September 22, 2003A Painful EducationGodson Chance had an accident this weekend, that knocked out a tooth. Not just any tooth, but one of his adult teeth, and an important one at that. Being a head wound, there was, of course, a lot of blood. This is what bothered him the most, because blood and bleeding meant that you were going to die. Follow The Scent! »September 02, 2003I Miss My GodsonsYesterday was Calculation's birthday, and from the sound of it a great time was had by all. It is times like this that I very much miss them. They moved to California a few years ago, and we went from being able to see each other once a month or so to -- at best -- once a year or so. That is not enough, especially with two growing boys. It is great when I do get to see them, but it is not the same as truly being able to spend time with them. I miss that part of things very, very much. LW September 01, 2003Happy Birthday, Calculation!Today is the birthday of my youngest Godson, Calculation. I hope it is a wonderful one, filled with joy, light, and all manner of good things, as is the new year to come. Don't work Mommy too hard (it is okay to run Daddy into the ground), and be sure to thank them both at the end. :) Enjoy! LW May 13, 2003My Godsons Rock! This is a little belated, but I wanted to congratulate my Godsons, Chance and Calculation, on the success they had with their first experience with climbing rock walls. Neither of them took the easy routes and both did outstandingly well. I am so proud of those two boys, and of their Mom who homeschools in addition to running the house and doing two other full-time jobs in addition to those two jobs. Net result is two very bright, happy, and advanced boys who are a true delight. To the homeschooling naysayers out there, they do play well with others, do so with other homeschoolers on a regular basis, and have no problems dealing with students in the educational system of the Peoples Republic of California – provided they remember to use simple words. I am proud of you boys, so keep up the good work! -30- Posted by wolf1 at 02:25 PM | Comments 0)
