The Spammers Had Me Hopeful

Meant to blog about this a while back, but I got a spam that really had my hopes up for a bit. It was one that honestly identified what it was, and it did get me to check it out because apparently someone must not have had their coffee before they sent it out and the header was a bit off:

A Quick Note To Spammers

My breasts don't need enlargement, thank you. According to my ex, other attributes are more than satisfactory and Viagra is not a need at this time. I have no interest in getting a mortgage or loan from a company that changes names on a weekly basis or that won’t use its real name. Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, etc… Yeah right. I don’t buy stocks based on breathless junk mail pitches, show me the money. I’m not sure what some of the drugs are being offered, but also know that what is promised is seldom delivered from a number of consumer fraud alerts, including one test by someone I know. I don’t do blind dates with anyone who tries to claim that we have talked extensively before, when we have not. I don’t need any more credit cards, thank you, especially high interest ones. Just a hint, but I prefer proportion to oversize anything on the female form. As far as I and the credit bureaus know, my credit is good. So, quit wasting your time and most especially mine.

Major Spam/Fraud Alert

The Pay Pal fraud people have either found company or a new trick. There is an e-mail making the rounds to people who have accounts on E-bay that purports to be from them, claiming that there is a problem with their credit card. There is a handy link to click to go in and re-enter the information.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!

I got it yesterday, checked headers and code, and promptly sent it to E-bay Security, who have confirmed that it is not from them. This is an attempt to get your credit card info, so don't be stupid.

Any time you get an e-mail like this, check with the site in question either through their secure server or by phone. Never, ever, ever give out your information unless you are sure you are giving it to the right people.

Spam

Well, the Nigerian scam has gone international, with someone claiming to be from Taiwan sending out an almost identical letter. How can anyone with two neurons to rub together fall for this crap? Just in case, if you get a letter from Mr. Chan Fung, chanfung7@hknetmail.com, at system33 ([195.166.233.129]), don’t bother unless you want to read it for a laugh.

As for all the others, do they really expect me to open something that has a lot of garbage in the subject line? The best one of the morning was one with the subject line “Please do not open this email.” Okay, I won’t.

I am not to the point of Little Tiny Lies, where he is signing up the spammers for interesting spam, simply because it takes too much time. Love what he is doing, but it is not for me. I may have to set up some filters soon, but have been cautious and lazy. Besides, maybe one of these time- and money-sucking cretins will come up with something original one day. Until then, the delete key is my friend.
